Pennies for Peace - Fact or Fiction

The latest controversy about Greg Mortensen's true colours is a quick study in media literacy. The allegations about his misuse of funds and misleading tales in his book makes us all feel somewhat betrayed. On the other hand does this bad thing that he did (embellishing) mean that he has not done a good thing for thousands of children? Watch the video about the charges faced by Greg Mortensen and make your voices heard about what we should do with the hundreds of dollars that we have collected for the Pennies for Peace program. If you do not feel that we should give the donation to Pennies for Peace, then please make a suggestion for another charity.

I agree with both because half of me thinks he's lying and the other half thinks he's not lying. :[

I think he's not lying because Greg wrote a book and not everything is true. Just because he's lying, doesn't mean that he's a bad man.

What we should think about is how the kids feel to something Greg gave them that they wouldn`t have gotten to do. He made a difference in lives and that`s what matters.

I think he is lying NOT because i am violent or anything it's just because they had evidence of him not there when he said so, him holding an AK47, him refusing to talk for 5 minutes, and he went to the back of a hotel to exit. HE IS GUILTY!!! >:)

We talked in class about what may have happened and then suggested different charities. The most popular suggestion in our class was to donate the money to the people who lost their homes and businesses in the wildfires here in Texas. We also thought all the volunteer firefighter units should have some of the money to help replace and repair all their equipment so they are ready if it happens again.

Well I think he could be telling 75% of it that is the truth and there is another 25% of it that he be lying about. Because we all know that he still made some schools so I dont really know where this is going to go.

I think Greg Mortenson is telling the truth in a way and also lying in a way. But the point is he was the one that inspired us to do pennies for peace . So I think we could at least just give pennies for peace 5% of the money.

I honstly do not think he is completly lying about everything, because he did put money into making brand new schools in Pakistan. And he made a minimum of 3 schools and three is alot considering he could have lied about everything and he could have just taken the money and ran with it, but instead of doing that he did build schools and not just one or two. He built many, many more, an 1 is better than none so that part I have to give him credit for. But this is where all of that sympathy just washes away. On the 60 minutes show they basicly trashed Greg Mortenson and he could have cleared that all up by just giving them a 5 minute interview to tell them he was not lying but, he couldn't even do that. Instead, he asked them to leave and then called security. And that where my sympathy washed a way. So I think we need to donate this money to the cancer institue, St.Jude Children hospital, or Japan. And we just might need to let other class teachers give us ideas of where to send the money because the were a big help with raising money and they deserve to know where the money is going. And I think once the teachers give us ideas if they want to we should have a class meeting to take a vote of where the money should go. AND I FEEL VERY STRONGLY ABOUT THIS!!!!

If he wasn't lying in the video(that Mrs. Andega showed us) he would have talked to the press. Now I know some people would be bothered to talk to the press but if I was telling the truth I would have totally talked to the press. But at least he did some good. He did build some schools but lying is REALLY bad though.

We should donate to SJCH(Saint Judes Childrens Hospital). Pennies for Peace isn't really using the money correctly and Saint Judes gives children a chance to live.
