God Bless America. God Bless Our Planet Earth As we sort through the wreckage of our September 11th memories, perhaps we might catch some glimmers of hope amidst the pain. Read the reviews of this wonderful story of a young man who lived in poverty thousands of miles away from America. Through his resilient spirit he became the catalyst for something amazing. This is what I call peace and love flourishing among the ruins. I was so inspired by this book because it reminds me of the spirit of our Armadillos and Eagles group. Read the book and become a part of the Armadillo Book Club. We will meet soon and see what we can do like Kimmell to change the world. As the summer ends and everyone heads back to school for a new season of learning LET'S NOT FORGET that we have the power within us to effect positive changes in our lives and in the world. Life is not static, its dynamic. This simply means that nothing really stays the same. Things change. For example, many students have now changed grades. My life has changed because my father passed away. I've also made a change from teaching in the classroom to teaching in a global village about the power of the Love inside of us all. Life has also changed for thousands of children who are now starving in East Africa. At the end of our school last year we raised close to $500 for Pennies for Peace. As you remember, many of you became disillusioned about the sincerity of that organisation. I think you will all agree that making a donation to SAVE THE CHILDREN will be a worthwhile cause. Watch the video below. May the spirit of the eagles and armadillos keep rising! Love and Blessings. P. Andega Summer is here and the Armadillos and Eagles are jumping out of their skin with joy and glee. I wonder what the summer will bring! The sky is the limit, but just remember to to put some reading in it. lt's been an amazing year. Here's one way to stay in touch. Leave your tweets here from whatever part of the globe you may be this summer. See you all in the fall for a new season of growing and learning. Have a sun kissed summer of bliss!. The latest controversy about Greg Mortensen's true colours is a quick study in media literacy. The allegations about his misuse of funds and misleading tales in his book makes us all feel somewhat betrayed. On the other hand does this bad thing that he did (embellishing) mean that he has not done a good thing for thousands of children? Watch the video about the charges faced by Greg Mortensen and make your voices heard about what we should do with the hundreds of dollars that we have collected for the Pennies for Peace program. If you do not feel that we should give the donation to Pennies for Peace, then please make a suggestion for another charity. Planting seeds of peace. Let's read, write, speak and think about ways to make our planet a more peaceful place. As you brainstorm about your character/problem solution narratives this week, let's think about how to incorporate a theme of peace and harmony. Fourth Grade Debate The most fascinating event currently in the news is the death of Osama Bin Ladin. Americans are thrilled to bits because they view this as justice being served. Fourth Graders were too young to grasp what happened during September 11, 2001, but they are not too young to join the conversation about the implications of Osama’s demise. Does his death mean that we can now relax and savour the taste of sweet revenge or will it trigger more war and bloodshed? Will it end up causing the loss of more innocent American lives?
